![]() The valve substitution works just fine, thank you. You have to understand that a lot of people on here are coming at things from an engineering viewpoint, so probably somebody is gonna tell you to change the diaphragm and try a new transformer and blah blah blah. I was almost bored with them, actually, because the mic was just so clear, but you knew there was a hint of tube distortion to the tone, which could only be a good thing. I went for the 7308s, because they are basically high-grade 6922s anyway, generally with the lowest microphonics and distortion of the whole family. ![]() You can choose from the 6DJ8/ECC88, 69 types. Most of these tubes are European (Dutch) but the Amperex USA tubes are also great. Amperex/Amperex Bugle Boy/Philips Holland. ![]() Most people seem to go for the Siemens CCa type 6922, but some people say the high-end repsonse of the K2 can be a bit brittle or something, and I went with Amperex tubes because they have probably the least grain of any brand. Siemens and Mullard are both good recommendations, although the Mullard CV2493 (6922 type) is supposedly very heavy on the midrange, at the expense of everything else. ![]()
